[ARCHIVED] 2018 Community Service Block Grant report released

To Our Community,

It is my pleasure to present our second annual report on the activities and accomplishments of Nye County Health and Human Services. Our Community Service Block Grant has been awarded to our office for more than 22 years. It provides assistance to very low to low-income population. These programs include: food pantry and vouchers, transportation, dental, childcare, and prescription; and as of this year we offer vouchers to qualified individuals to utilize Pahrump Public Transit. Households accessing our local food pantry have expressed their thanks for offering healthier options and really appreciate the vouchers for fresh fruits/vegetables/meats that they received quarterly. We continue to partner with WIC to increase referrals and are able to offer participants case management through our eLogic database to better serve our community. Our office has continued to collaborate with NyE Communities Coalition to conduct the Employment Incentive Program for both adults and youth. Under this program, we have assisted over 46 adult clients in obtaining employment through various one on one meetings, trainings and classes and 5 youth with employment training and placement while receiving subsidized wages so they can better serve the community while learning job skills. We have also continued to contract with Community Chest, Inc to offer Early Childhood Education programming through the Classroom on Wheels (COW) bus in Tonopah. As a result, COW Bus is available to low-income children 3 to 5 years of age three days per week for 40 – 42 weeks. Throughout the year our dedicated staff have looked at ways to better serve the many people in our community with services ranging from Employment Assistance to home-delivered meals for seniors.
