Amargosa Valley is an unincorporated township located in the southern portion of Nye County, Nevada. It has a small rural population spread over a large geographic area. Currently, the only planning criteria for the Amargosa Valley exists under the provisions of the 1994 Nye County Comprehensive Plan.
A citizen’s based grass-roots planning process began in 2000, with the primary goal of establishing land use planning policies which would require the Federal Government to coordinate land use activities over the vast areas of BLM managed lands within the Amargosa Valley with an adopted plan. The Amargosa Valley Area Plan, if adopted, will serve as the strategic planning tool related to growth and development within the valley over the next 20-years. The document should be reviewed and updated every 5-years or so as the needs/dynamics of the community change over time.
At the June 25th, 2009 meeting, the Amargosa Valley Town Advisory Board unanimously approved the Amargosa Valley Area plan and forwarded the document to the Nye County Board of County Commissioners for acceptance. At this time, the first review of the Amargosa Valley Area Plan is tentatively scheduled for the County Commissioners meeting taking place on August 19th, in Pahrump, NV at the Bob Ruud Community Center.
