[ARCHIVED] Newest Veterans Banners being placed

PAHRUMP, Nev. - County Buildings & Grounds began placing the final series of Veterans Banners on light poles along Calvada Boulevard west of Highway 160 on Friday.
Thirty-one banners honoring 60 veterans arrived last week, making the total number of veterans banners 42 honoring 81 service members from Nye County.
The first group of 11 banners honoring 20 service members was placed along Calvada Boulevard in March to launch the new Nye County Veterans Banner Program.
The program was created in partnership between the county and area veterans to honor its Nye County's past and present veterans for their service to our country and in turn, encourage a new generation to provide service to their country.
The service members honored were submitted by family members, friends or self-nominated.
Three banner sides were dedicated for messages: one for "Missing In Action/POW" and two "Nye County Honors Our Heros."
The banner acts as a symbol of our gratitude that pays tribute to the commitment and courage displayed by individuals that have served in the Armed Forces.
The Board of County Commissioners approved the program October 17. The banners are being paid for through the county Veterans Service Fund.
Commissioner Butch Borasky, who will retire after 12 years on the commission in December, was a lead advocate for the program.
