Governor Steve Sisolak has proclaimed Friday, August 5, 2022, "a day in honor of Sandra 'Sam' Merlino" in Nevada in honor of the final day of the retiring County Clerk after 28 years of service, 22 as the elected official.
The announcement of the day of distinction was made during a series of honors given to Clerk Merlino during the Board of County Commissioners meeting on August 2nd in Tonopah.
Former County Commissioner Joni Eastley presented the proclamation on behalf of the Governor, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from Nevada Secretary of State Barbara K. Cegavske, and a Letter of Appreciation from Cegavske, Chief Deputy Secretary of State Scott W. Anderson, and Deputy Secretary for Elections Mark Wlaschin.
As part of the duties as County Clerk, Merlino's office oversees elections in Nye County.
State Assemblyman Gregory T. Hafen presented a proclamation stating Merlino "performed her duties as Nye County Clerk with honesty, integrity, and an abiding devotion to duty" and that she be "recognized and thanked for her exemplary service and her unwavering dedication to Nye County and its residents."
Sheriff Sharon A. Wehrly gave Merlino a plaque for her "partnership with and support for the Sheriff's staff during each election cycle."
County Commission Chairman Frank Carbone presented a plaque from the County "In Appreciation for 28 years of Service."
