[ARCHIVED] County seeking applicants for County Health Officer


The County of Nye, State of Nevada, is seeking qualified individuals interested in serving as the Nye County Health Officer for a term to expire on January 1, 2023. 

Per NRS 439.290, the County Health Officer is appointed based on his/her graduate education in public health, training, experience, and interest in public health and related programs. The Public Health Officer also serves as Chair of the County Health Board and receives compensation of $2,500 per month.

The duties of the Nye County Health Officer include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Act as Chairman of the Nye County Board of Health meetings. 
  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and administer Public Health programs for the County. 
  • Develop and interpret administrative policies regarding the administration of Public Health functions and activities and the enforcement of Public Health laws and regulations. 
  • Coordinate County programs and functions with State and Federal programs and other departments and agencies. 
  • Provide direction and develop policies for clinics and control and prevention of communicable diseases. 
  • Plan and develop new program efforts. 
  • Initiate appropriate epidemiological investigations of communicable disease outbreaks. 
  • Serve as the first level contact and response for COVID-19 safety and compliance concerns within Nye County 
  • Direct the preparation, prepare, provide reports to the Nye County Board of Health, State Board of Health, Nye County Manager, and other interested parties. 
  • Serve as liaison with those groups and agencies whose activities impact the health needs of Nye County communities. 
  • Attend Nye County Board of County Commissioner meetings when necessary.
