Overview
The Public Guardian is charged with the duty, of taking care of a person and/ or managing the property and rights of another person who, for defect of age, understanding, or self-control is considered incapable of administering his or her own affairs.
On April 15, 2008, the Board of County Commissioners authorized the creation of the Office of the Public Guardian and appointed the Assistant County Manager as Ex-officio Public Guardian.
On August 19, 2008, the Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution No. 2008-66. This resolution established the rules and guidelines for the Office of Public Guardian.
Karyn Smith, director of Health and Human Services, was appointed Public Guardian, by the Board of County Commissioners on November 16, 2020.
